Shopify Ecommerce SEO AEO

Great products.
Google can't read them.
Shopify SEO & AEO that fixes it.

Shoppers now ask Google's AI and ChatGPT what to buy. Those answers come from product data most Shopify themes quietly break. I fix it hands-on, inside your store: schema, titles, alt text, collections and FAQs, done at scale and timed around your sales.

Sound familiar?

What's quietly broken.

Most Shopify stores look fine to shoppers and lose out in search for the same four reasons. None of them show up on the page.

01

Your product data doesn't parse

One unquoted barcode, or a reviews app adding a second product block, and Google can't read your price, stock or stars. One missing quote mark is enough.

02

Every title says the same thing

"Product name – Store name", the theme's default H1 (or none at all), blank alt text on hundreds of images. Google has little to go on, and neither do AI shopping answers.

03

Collections compete with each other

Single-product collections, seasonal collections that never got retired and thin category pages split your authority across URLs that shouldn't exist.

04

AI recommends your competitors

Ask ChatGPT for the best product in your category. If you're not named, it's usually because your brand facts, FAQs, reviews and listings don't give AI a confident answer. That's fixable.

What I actually do

Shopify work, done inside Shopify.

Not a 60-page audit you have to hand to a developer. I log in, make the changes, and show you before anything goes live.

// 01 · Theme & schema

Product data Google can read

One clean product block per page with price, currency per market, stock, GTINs, brand, reviews, shipping and returns. Organisation and breadcrumb data, and one proper H1 on every template. Built on a duplicate theme for you to preview.

// 02 · Product data at scale

Titles, descriptions and alt text

Keyword-led SEO titles and meta descriptions for every product, collection, page and journal post, plus alt text for every image. Done through Shopify's bulk import, so hundreds of changes land in one go.

// 03 · Collections & structure

Fewer, stronger pages

Duplicate and single-product collections retired and redirected, so old links still land on the right product. Real copy on the collections that stay, and product types and tags that make sense.

// 04 · Product FAQs

Answers AI can quote

FAQs written from the questions shoppers actually ask, stored in product metafields and marked up with FAQ schema. No unsupported claims: every answer is checked against what you can back up.

// 05 · AI visibility

Get into AI shopping answers

A before-and-after test of the questions your buyers ask AI, a brand facts page, and the listings, reviews and roundups AI leans on. You see which answers name you, and which name a competitor.

// 06 · Merchant Center & markets

NZ, Australia and beyond

GTINs, Google product categories and Merchant Center diagnostics tidied up, and the right currency and wording for each market you sell into.

How it runs

Planned around your sales calendar.

Retail has hard dates. The work is planned backwards from them, so nothing big changes while you're mid-sale.

// Week 1

Backup, theme and schema

A full backup of products and the theme, then the theme fixes on a duplicate for you to preview. Alt text goes straight in, because it doesn't change how anything looks.

// Week 2

Bulk data and FAQs

Titles, descriptions, product data, collections, redirects and FAQs. You have a quick look at the preview, then it all goes live before your code freeze.

// Weeks 3–4

Freeze, then results

Nothing published during the sales. Journal and content work carries on, then a full re-check, a fresh audit score and the before-and-after AI answers.

Proof, not claims

Ecommerce is where I started.

#1
A niche ecommerce store I grew into the #1 ranked retailer for its products. It has held that spot since 2020, six years and counting.

AI citations at a B2B company where I lead marketing: 156 in the ten months before, 34,737 in the ten after. The same AEO playbook, applied to products.

Working inside a New Zealand Shopify brand's store right now (under NDA), with every theme change built on a duplicate first.
Questions

Shopify SEO & AEO: the practical stuff.

Inside it. I work from a staff account: theme changes go on a duplicate theme you preview first, and product data goes in through Shopify's own bulk import. Nothing goes live on the theme without your OK.
Usually not. Most of the work is theme code, product data and content you already have. I'd rather remove a broken app than add another one.
Yes. I plan the work backwards from your sale dates: theme and bulk changes go live before your code freeze, and nothing is published during the sales. Content and checks can carry on through the freeze.
AEO (answer engine optimisation) is making your store easy for AI tools to read, trust and recommend: clean product data, clear product and brand facts, FAQs that answer real buyer questions, and consistent listings and reviews across the web. It's what gets your products into AI shopping answers.
I rewrite the parts that do the work for search and AI: titles, meta descriptions, the opening lines and the FAQs. Your brand voice stays. If your team would rather write, I give them a framework and check the drafts.
Fixed-price sprints are scoped to the size of your catalogue and site, so a 20-product store costs much less than a 2,000-product one. Monthly retainers start at NZ$1,400. You get a fixed price before anything starts.
